August 1, 2014 - What a great adventure it was to fly my Sonex to Oshkosh for the first time. My beautiful bride of 25 years and I made it home today about 1pm this afternoon. We were planning to make the the trip home in one day, but ended up having to leave Oshkosh later than expected due to an airport closing. It was about 1 pm yesterday when we departed Oshkosh. Our first stop was about an hour later at Monroe WI for fuel and more water. We stopped at Monroe on the way to Oshkosh so we were familiar with the area. From there we made it to Mt Pleasant IA for another rest stop and fuel. By this time it was 5 pm and we still had 3 hours of flying left. With one more stop for fuel. I was not wanting to come in after dark so it was time for plan B. My wife has family in Fairfield IA that we hadn't seen for several years that we thought we would call to see if they were home. As it worked out they were home and told us they would pick us up at the Fairfield airport when we got there. It ended up only being a 15 min flight and within 30 minute they were driving us to a great little restaurant for dinner. It was great seeing her family and we had a great time visiting with them. The next morning they took us back to the airport and we took off about 8:45 headed home. We made one stop at the lake of the ozarks for a rest stop and fuel. Landed back at Springdale AR at 1pm. What a great trip with lots of great memories! Can't wait to do it again next year.
